Description
The temperate carrot hybrid Pusa Nayanjyoti is the first F₁ hybrid of orange colour developed by the Institute’s Regional Station at Katrain using CMS system. It is suitable for all carrot growing areas in temperate and tropical regions. The roots get ready for harvesting in 75-85 days. It is early by 10 days than that of traditional variety Pusa Yamdagni. Its roots are orange, uniform, attractive, smooth, cylindrical, stumpy with a thin tail having small indistinct self coloured core. It is rich in β-carotene content (7.552 mg/100 g fresh weight). The average root yield is 39.6 t/ha. This hybrid has also been released earlier in Himachal Pradesh by the H.P. State Seed Sub-Committee.
