Schefflera 'bougainvill.biak' sp. ined.: Small 'araliad' monocaulous tree 5 m tall, dbh 0.055 m [5.5 cm]; understorey near edge of disturbed [previously logged] forest over a thin humus layer of soil on coralliferous limestone; alt 70 m; stipule[s of leaves] seemingly interpetiolar, brown; petioles flattened above, 88-90 cm long, base swollen and with numerous erect scales; leaflets on stiff petiolules - these fused and used as an ant house (the plant covered with numerous small black biting ants); leaflets 15-16 per leaf, thick with powdery hairs below; inflorecence terminal, massive, its axis over 90 cm long with braqcts at the base, these densely scaly and more or less swollen (hedgehog-like in appearance), the branches [florescences] 82-98 cm long, pale green and more or less scurfy; tepals [correctly petals] white, soon falling; receptacle, ovary and stamens [i.e. cupule, calyx and filaments] pale green; visited by beetles and flies
